The magazine drawings began accidentally. I had been using permanent markers to paint large canvasses, and these required the tip to be depressed periodically to enable the flow of the ink. In order to do this I kept a magazine open on the floor in front of the canvas I was working on and would periodically press the nib of the marker into the open page and move it around to get the paint flowing freely. After several tries I noticed that what I was doing on the magazine page was more interesting than what I had been painting on the canvas. It didn’t take long to realize that I should put my energy into the magazine drawings and not the canvases.
